11 Bit Studios Compares This War of Mine to The Alters

11 Bit Studios, the acclaimed Polish developer, has unveiled a fresh trailer for their highly anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters, which is inching closer to its eagerly awaited release. In a nostalgic nod to their roots, the studio took the opportunity to reminisce about their groundbreaking wartime survival game, This War of Mine, which catapulted them to international acclaim more than a decade ago.

While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and despairing ambiance, The Alters embraces a more vibrant and frequently humorous narrative, focusing on the trials and tribulations of the protagonist Jan Dolski's alternate selves. Despite the contrasting atmospheres, the developers highlight a deep thematic connection between the two games.

Although the settings and tones of the games differ significantly, they are united by the overarching theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players are immersed in the grim realities of war within a besieged city, managing scarce resources and facing daily survival challenges to keep their group alive. Conversely, The Alters frames survival as a frantic race against time, with players needing to continuously relocate their mobile base to escape the destructive path of a relentless sun that turns everything into dust.

Both games compel players to step beyond their comfort zones and explore hostile territories in search of vital resources. The primary distinction lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine tasks players with leading a group of ordinary civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team made up of different versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.

The Alters is slated for release in 2025 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Excitingly, the game will be accessible on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass right from launch day, promising an engaging experience for subscribers.
