Operator

The Operator starts with a bonus in Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and lacks Engineer skills. Endure is not a viable skill path. Their unique ability allows them to trade Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.

While the Operator becomes progressively stronger with upgrades, the early game can prove challenging. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't always effective. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator offers versatility, suitable for a wide range of character concepts.

Machinist

The Machinist begins with a bonus in Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and lacks Endure. Engage is also unavailable for skill development. Their ability lets them exchange Stress for a +2 bonus to their lowest die, further enhanced as the game progresses, coupled with Stress reduction on positive outcomes.

The Machinist proved to be the most effective class in my playthrough. The ability to mitigate Stress is invaluable, especially given the game's inherent tension. The starting skills also address frequent skill checks. Roleplaying-wise, this class is ideal for players drawn to the technical and mechanical facets of the game's world.

Extractor

The Extractor starts with a bonus in Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and lacks Interface. Intuit is not an option for skill progression. Their ability allows them to spend Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, further upgradeable throughout the game.

The Extractor's ability is particularly useful for managing contract risks. The initial Endure bonus is also advantageous, given its frequent use. However, the abundance of crew members skilled in Endure and Engage might lead to skill redundancy. From a roleplaying perspective, the Extractor suits players who prefer a more physically robust and challenging character.
