PS2 Plugins for 64-bit Architecture: A Deep Dive into ARMv8-A
The ARMv8-A architecture signifies a major shift in ARM technology. A key feature is the introduction of an optional 64-bit architecture, known as "AArch64," along with its corresponding "A64" instruction set. Crucially, AArch64 maintains backward compatibility with the existing 32-bit architecture ("AArch32" / ARMv7-A) and its "A32" instruction set. The 16-32 bit Thumb instruction set ("T32") lacks a 64-bit equivalent. This design allows for seamless execution of 32-bit applications within a 64-bit operating system, and even permits a 32-bit OS to operate under a 64-bit hypervisor. [3] ARM unveiled the Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A57 cores on October 30, 2012. [4] Apple led the way in bringing an ARMv8-A compatible core (Cyclone) to market in a consumer product.
