Dominoes, also known as dominos, utilize a set of rectangular tiles, often called "bones," to create various game configurations. The standard set contains 28 tiles, but extended sets (double 9 and double 12) exist for games like Mexican Train and Chicken Foot. Different regions have their own favored variations: England (Muggins), Scandinavia (Bergen), Mexico (Mexican Train), and Spain (Matador).

Dominos originated in Song Dynasty China. Their introduction to Italy in the 18th century marked the beginning of their global spread, although the precise evolution from Chinese origins to the modern game remains unclear.

Gameplay Basics:

Blocking Games: These games, typically played with a double-six set, involve two players drawing seven tiles each. The first player places a tile, initiating a line where adjacent tiles must match values. Players take turns extending the line. The game concludes when a player uses all their tiles or when neither player can make a move (the blocker then receives points from the remaining unplayed tiles of the opponent). Starting tiles vary by game (e.g., highest double in Muggins, 0-0 in Bergen, next lowest double in Mexican Train).

Scoring Games: These games award points for specific tile arrangements or actions. Many scoring games utilize variations of the draw game. Examples include Muggins (open ends summing to multiples of five) and Bergen (open ends with matching numbers). In Mexican Train, the double-zero tile is worth 50 points. Failure to call "domino" before placing a tile, when applicable, results in drawing an extra tile.

Draw Games: These games (blocking or scoring) allow players to draw tiles from the remaining stock before playing. The score is determined by the sum of pips on the losing player's hand and any remaining in the stock (usually two tiles remain).

Mexican Train is now included! Enjoy playing online (Draw, Block, and Muggins) for free!
